| Teaching objectives: |
The academic courses of the level I Diploma of the School of Restoration are designed to equip students with the professional skills for the fields of conservation, maintenance and restoration of the artistic patrimony and the safeguarding and promotion of the cultural heritage.
Graduates of the school’s diploma courses will: - possess a technical and practical command of methods and contents relative to the fields of conservation and restoration techniques and technologies; - possess methodological instruments for intervention and diagnostics suitable for their professional work; - be able to work in the institutions responsible for the management and maintenance of the cultural patrimony and for private organizations working in the sectors of conservative restoration and environmental recovery; - be able to communicate efficiently about their field of interest and be able to exchange information of a general nature in at least one of the languages of the European Union, besides their own; - possess suitable information management and communication skills and in particular computer skills for their field of study. |

| Work prospectives |
Graduates from the School, according to law D.M. 294/2000 – successively modified D.M. 420/2001, become qualified ‘Cultural Heritage Restorers’ able to work in varying sectors in the field of conservation, maintenance and restoration of works of art in private and public sectors including the ministry, museums, libraries, archives, businesses and organizations operating in the field of conservation and safeguarding. The Academy organizes suitable placements and work experience opportunities in collaboration with public and private organizations to give students the opportunity to gain professional experience in their field of interest. In addition, the Academy sets up specific training modules for each course. |

| Entry requirements |
To be admitted to the level I Diploma course students must have gained a high school diploma or the equivalent qualification from a school abroad recognised by the Academy in line with international agreements. Students will be selected on the basis of the entrance exam, the aim of which is to assess their basiccultural knowledge with regards to art history, and their analytical, perceptive, interpretive, visual, manual and therefore conceptual capacities. |

| Entry test |
Orientation activities are held at the School of Restoration prior to the entry test. The entry exam consists of A) an art history general knowledge test; B) a graphics test in 2 parts – the first drawing and the second chromatic choice and historic and artistic critical interpretation); C) an interview to discuss the candidate’s curriculum and study aims. |

| Final exam |
The final exam consists of the evaluation of two theses:
- one of an artistic/design nature consisting of work on a theme assigned by the tutor of the course; - the other of a historical and theoretical nature or methodological or technical and artistic nature, taking the form of an essay on one of the disciplines covered in the curriculum or the student’s personal study plan.
The theses may also entail the production of art work. |
