SCHOOL OF PAINTING
Teaching objectives: The academic courses of the level I Diploma of the School of Painting are designed to build and shape students’ artistic skills and professionalism, taking into account the pluralism of languages and innovation in techniques, enabling them to develop their own individual line of research in the field of painting linked to traditional techniques and the elaboration, in an experimental context, of new expressive languages.

Graduates of the school’s diploma courses will:

  • possess a technical and practical knowledge of art methods and study, in addition to painting techniques and technology, acquiring an autonomous and personal awareness of artistic production;
  • possess knowledge of methodological and analytical instruments, acquiring competency in expressive languages and more advanced techniques and technology;
  • be able to communicate efficiently about their field of interest and be able to exchange information of a general nature in at least one of the languages of the European Union, besides their own;
  • possess suitable skills and tools for communication and information management, in particular, in the field of computer science.
Work prospectives Graduates from the School will be able to work professionally in a variety of sectors as freelance artists, and in the field of visual arts and creative activities. They will also be able to collaborate in the many applied fields of painting in programming, design and implementation using traditional techniques as well as new technology and nationally and internationally recognized linguistic expressions.
The Academy organizes suitable placements and work experience opportunities in collaboration with public and private organizations to give students the opportunity to gain professional experience in their field of interest. In addition, the Academy sets up specific training modules for each course.
Entry requirements Entry requirements:

  • a high school diploma or the equivalent qualification from a school abroad recognised by the Academy in line with international agreements;
  • adequate, preparatory knowledge for entry to the School of Painting assessed by an entrance test.

At the School’s discretion, students who do not gain a satisfactory pass may be admitted on condition they attend specific, additional courses in their first year of study.

Entry test The entrance tests consist of :

  • a multiple response test: 50% general knowledge 50% relevant to the School’s area of study;
  • a live drawing test which may include live models or other subject chosen by the Commission;
  • a graphic drawing test – free theme, using whatever technique the candidate is comfortable with.

The tests take place over a series of days and finish with an interview.

Final exam The final exam consists of the evaluation of two theses:

  • ne of an artistic/design nature consisting of work on a theme assigned by the tutor of the course;
  • the other of a historical and theoretical nature or methodological or technical and artistic nature, taking the form of an essay on one of the disciplines covered in the curriculum or the student’s personal study plan.

The theses may also entail the production of art work.
